Golub is the former Executive Director of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) in Bethesda, Maryland. He is the former Executive Vice Chancellor of the University of California, Irvine (1994-1999) and was Dean and Provost, Medical Sciences, UC Los Angeles School of Medicine (1992-1994.) He received his Ph.D. in 1969 from Temple University School of Medicine, Department of Microbiology.

Dr. Golub is a specialist in cellular immunology and immunobiology of cancer. His memberships in scientific societies include the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Association of Immunologists, and the American Association for Cancer Research. His awards and honors include the Jonsson Prize for Research, presented by the California Institute for Cancer Research, 1990; the National Institutes of Health Research Career Development Award; and the Damon Runyon Memorial Fund Postdoctoral Fellowship, 1969-71.
